My daughter just picked up a milipede from the yard and wants to keep it in her bug jar. Can it be harmful to her, by holding it? We live in the northwest, it has two antlers and a big black body. Thanks!

Nope, not harmful. Some make good pets. I'd have her let it go eventually though, all children should learn that things in the wild should stay in the wild.

Millipedes are harmless to humans and just about everything else. They eat dead rotting plant matter. They have antennae, not antlers. Give it living conditions similar to where it was found.
Of course, wash your hands before eating a meal.

depends the ones on the beach are extremely painfull ,some in the tropics are deadly
most in North America are not very dangerous
