Why can't people debate without name-calling and childish behavior? Why do people have to call Republicans facists, Nazis or made up words like repukes or repubes? Why do people have to call Democrats commies and traitors?

Can't we be civil and mature and debate without all the childish crap?

I don't know. It appears that people get upset if no one else agrees with their opinion. I suppose some have just never learned to be mature or even civil. Please forgive this expression, but they are usually ignorant people, all the way to the press and television. The game is to smear the name.

Thanks for the question. I will agree with the majority that there are a lot of hateful and inconsiderate people on Yahoo Answers and questions. I am slowing learning which questions to avoid answering. Sometimes, I just have to respond in a mature way to their questions, but it never gets me anywhere.

well, some people are just trying to get a rise out of you. I generally don't answer questions that insult any party. Most of them are rhetorical anyway, so they don't merit an answer. Kind of like the question "When did you stop beating your wife"

I try to refrain from insulting the asker, although some clearly need a good slap.

Politicians from any party, by merit of the fact that they sought or are seeking public office, are eligible for a public roasting.
Them, I'm happy to oblige ;-)

That's going to stay with us for quite some time.

You can even find the lack of the maturity and civility even in the White House. What is the point of having Karl Rove around?

That'll never happen on YA. It used to be debate about 8 or 9 months ago then a bunch of trolls and hooligans started showing up. That's why my original ID was suspended. I'd rather join in these days instead of constantly defending myself.

In a perfect world, people would debate politics politely.

But this is not a perfect world and politics can bring out passion and extremism, it's always been that way and always will be.

If you think the US is bad, in some countries, politicians have been known to get into fist fights.

From: Hey_you

Subject: eat me, hoe

Message: i'll impose whatever i want on you-

I wish it could be that way. I try to keep on point, but maturity is lacking on this board.

suthrnly & celtic; I couldn't agree with both of you more.

Some people never grow up.

As for me, I love having the carefree innocence of a child, but the intellect of an adult. (yes, i am saying i am immature. At least I CAN admit it.)

When you can't win an argument on the logical merits of your stance, the next best thing is discrediting your opponent.

You're always going to have a select few who are pains in the butts. It's unfortunate.

I suggest that we start talking to one another rather than *****-ing about who support's who, so we can help get our troop's out of harms way.
