Ah! good stuff! That's easy; General MacArthur. Truman was wrong; he should have let MacArthur have free reign. Despite Truman's fears about Russia and Red China, we could have won any war at that time.
Now, things are different; any one can build a "bomb" any one can buy a RPG.

Douglas Mac Arthur was dismissed by President Truman. Public criticizm was the last straw in a long battle.

Although MacArthur advocated many maniacal notions, and was an absolute megalomaniac who imagined himself possessed of judgment superior to anyone, he was not fired for advocating a more violent war or the use of the bomb.
He was fired for defying civilian authority, something George Washington, from our earliest times, warned against and was scrupulous in observing.
After his single strateigic stroke of genius, that invasion of Inchon, he thought himself invincible. MacArthur was in touch with extreme right wing nuts in the Congress, and he wrote a letter to one of the most vicious of them for the man to read. It was a defiant challenge to the president's authority. MacArthur never imagined that Truman would fire him, but Harry had been hoping for the opportunity for a long time. "That goddamn MacArthur is a crazy son-o-a-*****," in the judgment of Truman, and so he kicked in the tent and sent him to the rest home.
He came home and made one of his melodramatic speeches to Congress and was adored by the wacko right wing Republicans who launched an attempt to get him the Republican nomination for president. He was for it, but actually everyone knew he was one or two bricks short of a full load. So instead, he took a job as VP of Remington arms to help them get military arms contracts, thus further enriching himself while imagining he was serving the people.

Truman (reluctantly) fired General Douglas McArthur for his public statements, but not exactly for his personal criticism of Truman.

He was not fired for that reason. McArthur insisted on nuclear bombing China. China was sending millions of soldiers into Korea to kill Americans, Australians, etc.. In the end, China's plan backfired. China lost hundreds of thousands of soldiers because Americans were better fighters. America lost over 50,000 soldiers.
China helped North Korea in the Korean war (China did a surprise attack on Americans and it never announced it was going into war against the U.S.).
