Can anyone tell me in a nutshell what's been happening in the stock market.

The reason I ask is I have to do a book report (which I am currently working on). He wants us also to draw on recent market history. Not like this stock is going up...but just generally what's been happening. I have no problem looking the info up I just don't know where because WSJ I think would be too specific?? Any info appreciated.--TIA

The stock market averages all have continued to rise over the past several years. The ride upward follows a jagged path, sometimes up, then a little down, then some more up. The Dow Jones Industrials averages has been hitting record highs during the month of May.
