You could start by reading a recent article in the NY TImes (just a few days ago - early May, 2007) that describes how the wages in cooking are so low that many culinary grads have a tough time meeting their student loan payments.
You can make a decent living in the food service industry, but NOT if your only skill is cooking. You have to run the restaurant to make a decent living. That means being a business person first and a chef second. THere are two premier culinary schools in the USA, the Culinary Institute of America and Johnson & Wales University. Both of those accredited schools give Bachelor's degrees in Culinary Arts and different areas of food service. They teach you to be a gourmet chef, but they also teach you to be able to make a living and support your family.
Be sure that you are educated, as well as trained, or you will wind up as someone elses kitchen slave.

You want to look for a college that will help you go far in the culinary world!
Collegeboard has a whole section on every major, and a check list of what the college you go to should have if you want to go into that field.
http://www.collegeboard.com/csearch/majors_careers/profiles/majors/12.0500.html
Or, maybe you want to major in something different- like nutrition? What about culinary management, where you learn how to open a restaurant?
When you find a major you like from that site, then do a college search engine.
http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/index.jsp
Put the major you want to major in and the other requirements you want and you will get lots of ideas. Oh yeah, here's another culinary site:

Good Luck!

I tell you what. I just thought of a great idea. You should start your own business where you have a menu online, and mail your food out. I mean that would be awesome for guys like me who are single and don't really feel like cooking all the time.

Culinary School, maybe think about helping out at a restaurant (not a fast food place) and see if you'd like to be doing that in your own future...try things out...as a teen it's very easy to find places to try things out and see if you like it or not.
