For example, my grandfather is named Charles and my mother is Charleen...I also have a name fashioned from my fathers....I have married a man named Frederick...If we were to have a daughter, what could I name her BESIDES the obvious (and gross) names of Winifred, Freda or Fredericka?

Just to clarify things more....if I were to break the mold and not continue the tradition my family would not alienate me....Also, it's not a "blatant disregard for individuality" as one person stated....we look at the child and see what would fit...names are powerful...we feel a powerful name should be given to a girl child instead of "cutesy" names (no offense to anyone with a "cutesy" name!)

You could do:

Freja (Goddess of love)
Freddy (peace ruler)

That is tough - I think Freja could be a very beautiful, unique name.

If you must continue the 'tradition' which to me is blatant disregard for your individuality, you could name her the French equivalent 'Frederique' or you can manipulate the letters in the name Frederick until you come up with an acceptable name. By the way, what does your husband think of this 'tradition'? Would breaking it alienate you from your family to a degree of discomfort? Why not break the mold and do it your way! Believe me, they'll get over it!

Dari, Ricki, Ericka, something like those might work or you might try just using the same letters but in a different order like Reice or Kiree sorry if this is not much help

Good luck

What about leaving off the Fred and doing Dericka or Ericka? That's a thought. I agree. I don't like the other ones either.

Freddie, Freya, Freesia, Freeda, Freira or maybe you could find a female variation of the father's middle name and add Freeda or Fredrica as a middle name.

Well I think Freya is sooooo totally cutsie. Except I think I would pronounce it Frayah. You could spell it either way. But cuter pronounced Fray a. Like the bottom of your pants are frayed. Frayah that is totally awesome. See there is something good from Fredrick. ;-) Good luck on names and Congrads!

Instead of focusing on the "Fred," why not focus on the "Rick" in your father's name? My daughter has a female friend named "Ricki," and I always thought that was a cute name. You could also combine it with another female name like "Rickianne" or "Rickielynn."
