grosgrain ribbon without melting it? I joined a group order of large amounts of ribbon for making hairbows, etc. When it arrived, I was shocked to find that she had shipped it OFF THE SPOOL and all wadded up in the box. Yards and yards of it. Now it is so wrinkled. I am afraid that it will melt if I iron it. Any suggestions?

Try hanging it over a bar in the bathroom, in the steam, to get the worst of the wrinkles out.

Try to iron a little piece, on low heat and with a cloth between the ribbon and the iron.
A wet cloth is best when the ribbon can take it.
And wind it back on card or spools, so you can stretch it a little.

Try the different things at the same time, to save time.

If you have an iron that can steam while hovering horizontally, one that can do a "shot of steam", there's usually a button on the iron for this-I have shrunk delicate French ribbon using just steam, it doesn't burn the ribbon, I've also steamed the wrinkles out of sheer ribbons that, I think, are made from nylon, those sheer organdy spools. Rowenta is the iron I have, I learned the "shot of steam" trick from watching craft shows on TV, & my iron at the time could not do that; JoAnn sometimes has irons on sale, because this kind is about $100 regularly.

Have you tried a steamer? Whether the ribbon is porous or not, the steam should help with the wrinkles and is much cooler than the surface of the plate on your iron so it's less likely to melt it. If you don't have a steamer you can always boil a pot of water and manually pass the ribbon over it in sections, being very careful not to burn yourself and to mind the ribbon so it doesn't go near the burner if you still have it lit.
I'm not a professional but it's what I would try if I were in your shoes. Best of luck to you. :-)

PS - You can always return it to her along with a piece of your mind.
