I am talking about a standard police car driving behind you

In Colorado they have servalence vehicles that take a video that is connected to a speed laser/radar, then mail you the ticket, they ask if it was you, and if it wasn't they want you to tell them who you think was driving the car. theoretically if a police car had a video like this they may be able to do the same thing.

No. But in Illinois, they have stationary vans with radar cameras in work zones on highways. They have a warning sign just before the work zone. In this case, the radar camera would take pictures of the speeding drivers and license plates and send a ticket by mail. The fine is doubled for a violation in a work zone.

If the police car was pacing you from behind, they would have pulled you over if they wanted to give you a ticket. As far as I know, speed cameras are stationary. And if the police car was behind you, they couldn't have taken a picture of the driver.

Having been a police officer, the idea of jotting down your license number and filing a complaint to have the court send out a citation is too much of a pain. Our department did not have any sort of procedure for such a thing.

There are a lot of new high tech processes these days. Maybe with something that works the way the red light cameras work, the officer could record your car and his radar unit and get it processed, but I would think the department that could do that would have to be on the cutting edge of technology, or have rigged up something because they are desperate for ticket revenue.

No, standard police procedure is to pull the car over, check the driver's license, registration and proof of insurance. Also other routine things that they look for!!

yes because they have cameras on there dashboard, haven't you seen that show COPS, will they can take a picture of your liscence plate and find out your info and mail you the ticket, or you can get caught by the cameras that are on the street lights, so yes a cop can still give you a ticket even though they didn't pull you over, bye :o)

Yes. They have 10 working days to get the notice of intended prosecution to you, same as cameras. (UK!)

Not likely, but possible. With your tag number they can send you a ticket my mail, but it isn't all that likely they would.

Yes - if they have a camera and have evidence that you were speeding.
