Snowboarding is better regardless of the cost difference. Snowboarding costs a lot more money with lift tickets, gear and everything else but it is definitely worth it. When you go snowboarding you know what you are going to get and you do not have to hope or wait on a wave to get down. When you are snowboarding you are also free and not relying on the mercy of mother nature. Snowboarding allows a person to go longer, faster, and higher and to many more places. If you spend time in the park you might have to wait for a turn to hit up some rails and kickers but other than that there is no competition over waves and sets like in surfing. Snowboarding is also much more versatile than surfing in the way you can ride groomed runs, you can hit up the park and all the man made things, or you can go backcountry and ride the natural mountain. There is injury associated with snowboarding but you do not have to worry about drowning or being bitten by a huge predator either. Snowboarding also has the diveristy of being something you can do completely solo or you can go with a big caravan of buddies down the hill and have a blast. The best thing about snowboarding knowing the mountain you ride on and where certain spots are and watching them gradually change throughout the year to give you the opportunity to feel comfortable with where you are riding but also giving you the chance to see a change and difference every time you ride.

Surfing by a landslide! I've never gotten hypothermia, frostbite, ruptured my ACL or dropped thousands of dollars on a trip where most of my body was numb for the "fun" part while surfing. Plus there's no icy pain when you fall and you gain more respect for Mother Nature.

Surfing leaves little to no mark on the environment because you needn't change the landscape to gain access to a surfspot. There's no carving of trails or installing of lifts or anything like that. It's you and the water and however Mother Nature throws 'em atcha is how you have to catch 'em. It's much more holistic and wholesome and hardly as fad-ish, surfing has been around sicne time began and then some ( =

Surfing. There is no better feeling in the world than sitting out on your board in the middle of an expansive ocean knowing that the next set of waves that come in could teach you a damned good lesson or give you the ride of your life. There is no inbetween.
