I have a laptop I just bought about a month ago and has a built in wireless internet (with built in antenna) and I was wondering if there was anyway how I could buy an external antenna for it? I just need the antenna to get a better range and reception. Any help would be great.

yes ... newegg sells usb adapters with external antennas ... some even have a large antenna on an extention cord ... so u would in effect be adding another network card .. that will work and should extend ur range from 50 or so feet to over 300 ...

Most of your antennas are built with an external card. With this in mind, you would be buying an additional PCI card. Most of your sellers on the internet have their "home-made" varieties. So if you're looking for better reception, try one of two ideas:

Make your own

Buy your own

Or buy someone else's antenna

Also, you can take a look at people that have done the research for you. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,121199-page,1/article.html

I'm not real sure you can buy just an antenna. You may end up buying a USB wi-fi adapter to get the added range. I saw an article not long ago in PC Magazine/World about this same problem. The same solution was a new adapter.

Be sure to wear an aluminum foil hat when you do this!
