I have to struggle to keep them down. How important are they?

I am 8 weeks pregnant.

Very important to take those, I take mine with pudding and at night right before I go to bed so if I feels sick it is when I'm sleeping.

Hey, i'm 8 weeks too and in the same boat as you with the vitamin and sickness.
One thing you can do is take a flinstones vitamin in the morning and again at night.
I have started taking my regular prenatal vitamin at bedtime instead of with breakfast. I guess i'm sleeping through most of the effects of it. I'm still sickly though. Just a few more weeks and you and I should both be out of the woods here.

I was too sick to take prenatals in my first 3-4 months of pregnancy. My midwife said not to worry about it and to just eat whatever I could, even if it was just chips and ice cream.... You could try some Flintstones vitamins, but just double check the label and make sure there is not aspartame in them.. (phenylalanine) it is an artificial sweetener used in gum, candy, and a lot of other things. It is known to cause birth defects.... But don't worry about it if you can't keep anything down, really it wont hurt your baby, it will just take everything from you... And stay hydrated :) GOOD LUCK! I hope you feel better soon!!

I didn't take mine for the same reason. I also didn't take my iron pills. I have too much iron in my blood anyway. I liked not taking the pills. As a replacement I just craved fruit all day long. I think that if you're getting your vitamens in pill form you won't crave what you're body actually needs and will instead crave junk food and mcdonalds and gain 50lbs. You're body knows what you need and you will crave it. Women have been doing this for years, there is no reason to take them that I can see. I think that's the reason why there are so many huge mother's out there. I gained 17 lbs, but ate all the time. I ate a case each of apples, tangerines and a bunch of bananas a day! My son was 8.5lbs when born, so he wasn't a little thing. My doctor said that the reason they made me sick is because my blood levels on all the things the pills give you are already good, so it was too much.

Mine made me sick too, so i started taking them at night right before i went to bed, and now im doing perfectly fine with takeing them.

If that still dont help take 2 flintstone vitamins. They will so just as fine.

They are very important. The Prenatal are more for you then the baby.... sience the babys takes all yours, and it leaves your body with nothing... the natal gives you body the extra boost that the baby is takeing from you

wow! good for you that you want to be sure your baby's getting all the nutrients he needs. that's what's on my mind too, when i found out i was pregnant. i have to take a prenatal multivitamin to ensure the health of my baby. but then i started getting dizzy, having terrible headaches, i was 12 weeks pregnant then, (now i'm 17 weeks). i was having second thoughts of stopping the vitamins, but i don't want to take risk of having a unhealthy baby in the future. so instead of taking the vitamins in the morning, i started taking them at night, and like magic, the headaches stopped.
i think it depends on how your body is coping with the new life inside of you. try taking the vitamin at a different time of the day, and hope you'll feel the difference. goodluck!

They are pretty important and they made me sick too. Tell your doctor - sometimes they can recommend a different brand that can help with the illness or they may even recommend you take the Flintstones vitamins with a little extra iron on the side.

For me, it was the iron in them making me sick so I did the Flintstones vitamins for a bit and would take an iron supplement every few days.

HTH.

First, I'm going to tell you to talk to your doctor because that's what you should do eventually.

I never took my prenatal vitamins. My doctor was okay with that--instead she put me on a diet to make sure I got the majority of what I should be getting had a I taken the prenatal vitamins. Honestly, I do not know what they actually do--then again I'm not a doctor.

I've known many women who do not take them and have babies that are a-okay along with myself. Just think of all the women who had babies in the past never taking the vitamins and their children turned out just fine.

Above all though--talk to your doctor.

Do not take any thing but prenatal vitamins. Your doctor should be able to get you some vitamins that don't make you sick. Prenatal vitamins were made for pregnant women . If you mess with taking something else you might hurt your baby, or deprive him of vitamins and minerals.

They are very very very important to the development of your baby. Try taking them after eating. Mine says not to take on an empty stomach. Also, it could be that your morning sickness is what's causing you to get sick and not the prenatals. You should discuss this with your doctor or try a different brand.

im 35 weeks pregnant with baby number 3, ive always had this issue as well, best thing you can do is take them right before bed everynight. They are very important if you ask me, they use to make me sick to my stomach but i tried taking them at night when i was about 14 weeks pregnant and i havent been sick since :) By the time you wake up they have already went through your system.
