because then they would have to tax it.

The only reason weed isn't legal is not because its a dangerous drug or because its extremely addictive. Its not because there is no demand for it .Its not illegal because it kills braincells or reduces your sperm count. It is ,however, illegal because there is no way to monitor your use.We know that if you drink excessively you lose control of your functions and when you get behind the wheel of a vehicle your dangerous. The law has a way to tell just how dangerous you are because they can give you a breathalyzer test which is used to measure how much alcohol is in your system. Same with most drugs. There are blood tests which determine your usage and whether you are under the influence of said drug. Most drugs dont stay in your system very long Marijuana, however shows up differently because THC stores in your fat cells so your body holds it for months. They can blood test you to see if you have used the drug but since it is stored for long periods of time, the test cant show when you used it last. The test can only show positive or negative. But the biggest reason it is illegal is they don't have any way to test you along side the road when they pull you over(and its not because you were not in control)and judge if you are inebriated. How this answers your question.

marijuana is natural , unlike cigz containing unknown chemicals etc , and it's legal? alchol where you cannot control yourself is legal , 1000s of dui's a day. People smoke weed and drive perfectly but u can't drink and drive in any way. Tobacoo and alchol company owners are still alive because they pay uncle sam , marijuana would be legal in a sec if the gov finds a way to tax it.

There are no good reasons.

Health- Not as bad as cigarettes (which are legal), not addictive in nature. May put on a few pounds as it tends to promote laziness and video game playing.

Crime- Take the black market out of it and the release of prisoners for committing a crime against no one would uncrowd the jails.

Economic- Could be taxed all to hell and bring in more money than income taxes each year. Take money away from gangster and criminals as it is no longer available as a black market drug.

Safety- People wouldn't shoot people over it. Less black market less crime. Less drunken driving accidents as for the most part, those smoking the marijuana are sitting at home watching movies or playing video games...see Health.

Also, and this is my biggest reason for legalization...
THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT BE TELLING ME WHAT TO PUT INTO MY OWN DAMN BODY! IF I WANT TO DRINK I'LL DRINK, IF I WANT TO SMOKE I'LL SMOKE AND IF I CHOOSE TO SMOKE MARIJUANA IT IS NONE OF THEIR DAMN BUSINESS! WHY CAN'T ADULTS BE ADULTS ALREADY! Thanks and have a nice day.

if you go back to the original reasons it will become clear. There isn't one single valid reason why it should be kept illegal.
It is truly sad to see people still wheeling out that tried old lie about "brain damage". the 1970 monkey study that claimed this was so horribly flawed that they have yet to find another researcher to validate his work because his methodology was more a study of CO2 poisoning and smoke inhalation than the actual effects of THC.
others claim it's a gateway drug, that's only because of the person you're buying it from not the plant itself. Aspirin would be a "gateway" drug if you were buying it from someone that would rather have you truly addicted to something.
The prime difference between government research and independent research is that the independents willingly open up their work to peer review while the government doesn't want anyone looking too close. The abovementioned monkey study required a 3 year long law suit for the government to make the methodolgy available to the public.

No reason. A bunch of stuffed shirts in our political system who only care about a pay check and fear public backlash and missing a lot of money to sit around, look important, and do nothing for it. Bill Clinton, our former President, admitted smoking it once (of course, he says he didn't inhale!). In moderation, there is nothing wrong with it.

See how many DUI deaths are in the media daily on our highways? Women, children, Doctors and so on. How many headlines do you see, death by driver who smoked too much pot?

No reason, except that the black market created by the failed prohibition on the weed supports a huge criminal element.
These criminals clog our courts and prisons, foment crime in our cities, and (perhaps unintentionally) provide a source of revenue to local law enforcement, who tithe the mules and runners with highway enforcement/seizure laws.
When there is a lot of money to be made on both sides of the law, it is unlikely the law will be changed.
So a weed that grows anywhere and should be virtually free is valued at $1,000 a pound and more.
Go figure.

Because if it was legal, that would one less thing the government could control in your private life. Sure, if it was legal the government would regulate the processing and sale of it, but that's about it.

Legalize it, regulate it, and tax the hell out of it. Just like they do for tobacco and alcohol.

Man, I hate the "gateway drug" argument. You want the true gateway drugs? Try alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, and sugar. They teach us (legally) that one can alter one's mood/reality/what-have-you by using chemicals. Marijuana is simply another step up the ladder that we ALL climb. Some farther than others....

marijuana shouldn't be legalized because it is well known for being the "starting point". marijuana is well known for being the drug that gets people started in doing other drugs like crack, speed, etc. and if that happens someone is going to want to legalize the other drugs that these stoners use. not to mention the effects of marijuana. brain damage. lots and lots of brain damage.

Because stoners are easily tricked by shiny things. Imagine what our government would get away with if everybody was too high to notice!
