Twice today, people have posted questions about that stupid teacher showing Brokeback Mountain to a group of 12-year-olds. Both people assumed that liberals would be in favor of this.

Both times, when I responded that, as a liberal, I think it's unnecessary to show sexually explicit material of any type to any 12-year-old child, I was given multiple "thumbs downs."

Can someone explain the logic behind this?

To those who say it had to be liberals giving me a thumbs down... please prove it.

I'm more inclined to believe it's some idiot conservative who doesn't like my liberal viewpoints, myself.

And sway_26: I don't have a problem with the movie at all. I have a problem with showing it to kids who are that young.

Some people have nothing better to do with their time other than troll around and bash other people and label them. They have no real opinions themselves so they think railing on others is fun. Ignore them and they will go away. Either way, you don't have to listen to their garbage.

Conservatives have been defining what is liberalism for more than 30 years. The Republicans here are just doing the same thing their parents did, except that they've gotten better at it.

You might find find this book review enlightening. There's a sample chapter too.

The question is a case of the pot calling the kettle black. You are likely irrationally assuming conservatives are giving you a thumbs-down.

A thumbs-down shows disapproval of your views which means that whoever is giving the thumbs-down wants the gay lifestyle taught to the sixth grade class. This is liberals, not conservatives giving you the thumbs-down.

I used a parental lock on Brokeback Mountain so the the TV screen goes to black when the movie is on. I have no desire to see Heath Ledger make out with Jake Gyllenhaal. If that makes me homophobic, so be it. Where do I sign up?

I would have given you a thumbs-up for your answer.

What makes you think that it was the conservatives that
gave you the thumbs down? It could be liberals giving you
the thumbs down because they did not like the fact that
you stated you were liberal and disagreed with the showing
of explicit material to 12 yr olds.

I am a conservative and I would have give you a thumbs up
for that answer.

The key to your question is "logic", as there's none used in these questions and answers.

Once somebody has seen your name enough, they will give you a thumbs down no matter what you wrote.

I doubt they even read the answers after a while.

And for some reason cons think they have the monopoly on morals and ethics. Like proclaiming yourself as Christian guarantees your place in the moral fabric of America.

Why are you jumping to conclusions and assuming that conservatives gave you the thumbs-down? Any person who believes in common moral decency be they lib or con could have done so.

People who respond in such a fashion are mostly teenagers. You can't expect rational thought from kids.

Adults who respond in the same manner are people who've never grown up.

It's called trolling and logic has nothing to do with it.

And, by the way. The kids who were purportedly shown the movie were in eighth grade. So, they wouldn't be 12 unless they had skipped a grade or two.

Typical,it's the same as with the rant of that guy to his daughter and when Sheryl Crow said something about toilet paper. The conservatives are desperate for talking points, can't go with the war or the economy, and it shows. They actually spent days here celebrating the FRENCH election results which they as usual don't understand

I see a lot of generalizing of both liberals and conservatives on this site.
