I have pain in my right wrist upon use of it, bending it forward or backward. I work for Pain mgmt doctor who has injected it several times with Marcaine & Kenalog. It used to work, but past 2-3 have not worked. I went to an ortho, who ordered MRI. MRI was perfectly normal with the exception of mild dorsal tilt of the lunate. Ortho has now ordered 3 weeks of PT, which doesn' seem to be doing a darn thing. I am in a wrist splint except for during therapy. The only injury I have had was about 2 years ago when I was trying to use a power tool to put a hole in a desktop at work...it twisted my thumb/wrist until I saw stars! I had it injected for the first time just after that, which helped it 100%. Anyone have any idea what could be wrong?? MRI was essentially normal. What questions can I ask the ortho at my next follow up. I am discouraged at the lack of findings. Anyone have a similar situation?

I have no more patience. The PT told me that it's likely inflammation/tenosyvitis. Immobilize it 6 months and see what happens. ?! Are you serious?! Why not just keep having my boss inject it? At least I can function then!

The question to ask is it the problem is muscular or joint? Muscular problem will be PT, rest, ice anti-inflammatory drugs and it will always play up so you have to watch out for what you are doing, twisting, turning actions that will trigger inflammation. Joint problem would show on a MRI, but if joint then you have Arthritis and need to see a Rheumatologist to get treated.

Tell the dr you're concered about the lack of findings. The one thing I've learned about alot of doctors is you need to voice any concerns you have. I had a problem where my "good" knee swelled up to the size of a melon and the Dr. I had to see (insurance reasons) told me that I had lyme disease, put me on antibiotic, and drained fluid. A week of suffering (the antibiotic was horrible) later I got a phone call saying I didn't test positive for lyme. I fought with my insurance company and after a barrage of tests found out that I have psoriac arthritis. Ask why you had no new inury, but still have pain. Ask if further tests would be a benefit. And most important, ask for a second opinion!

Unfortunately, many people suffer from repetitive stress injury for which there is no cure. The recommendation to refrain from using for 6 months would support that possibility. I think that it is time for you to try some alternative remedies such as mental strategies to allow you to mitigate and possible completely ignore the pain. It can be done, one of my best friends could not even type with his hands (had to use dragon naturally speaking and a foot mouse) because the pain was so severe. He will struggle with the problem his entire life but has learned and used mental strategies to reduce his felt pain almost completely.
