Perhaps then they would not have been surprised by the fact that so many other fighters from other countries are joining the fight against the occupying US military.

Muslims know no borders and will come from the 4 corners of the globe to aid other Muslims who fight against those that attack their religion.

Thats not fair..
We didn't invade them for no reason. They have no right to help our enemy. Can't they see that we are fighting for God and that God himself hath ordained America the greatest and most worthy nation on earth?

I don't get the question but I like it anyway. I don't really think Muslims think we are attacking their religion. We have usurped the power base that the Sunnis enjoyed in Iraq under Hussein. The fact that we're in their homeland is reason enough for Muslims to want to kill U.S. soldiers. And those Iraqis they consider "traitors" -- they have a real fundie mentality when you get right down to it: Their motto could be summed up as "if you're not with us, you're against us." And that would include every Iraqi that ISN'T actively trying to kill U.S. soldiers.

We do what's right, not what's popular or easy. Let's not forget that the terrorists were attacking us here at home long before we invaded Iraq. I prefer it this way don't you?
That being said, we might have prosecuted the war better if we had "known our enemy" better. But we'd have still fought. By the way, our enemy is not Islam, its fascism using Islam as a propaganda tool.

Stephanie - If we can't win this war, then we lose. Maybe not tomorrow, but at some point if we don't win, we lose. When you lose a war, then you lose your country, maybe not the borders or the population, but the country dies and is replaced by something else, in the case of Islamo-fascism something unacceptable.

Enzyme 305 - thanks for the Dem talking points, but you lie. The intel was correct. Saddam did have WMD; he used them, and we found some of them (admittedly not much) Saddam had a considerable WMD production capability after the 1991 war, again this was confirmed. Saddam was developing missiles to deliver WMDs; again we found them. Saddam was targeting U.S. forces with surface to air missiles after he signed the cease fire in 1991. Saddam used oil-for-food scam to import computer technology to produce weapons systems in violation of the cease fire he signed. Saddam squadnered his country's considerable wealth on maintaining his terror grip on his own population while the rest of the world wringed their hands worrying about starving Iraqis not realizing that charity given to tyrants never reaches its intended.

The problem is that you have to let the military officers run the military. Today we have politicians that think just because they went to college they are qualified for any position and know all about military operations. They need to put someone like General Blackjack Pershing in charge out there in Iraq and he would get results just like in the Philippines at the turn of the century.

Would the sick, twisted, hateful Islamic extremists who attacked us on 9/11 been better off remembering what happened after the Japanese sneak attacked us in the 40s?

Everyone should know the basic tenets of major world religions. Most Americans don't know squat about Islam other than they worship Allah... and I doubt many could even point that out.

John K. - You are defending the war in Iraq with 9/11? That is the biggest lie continuously perpetuated.

I get tired of people saying "They attacked us on 9/11"... Oh, "they" did? Who? Iraqis? "Terrorists?" By that logic we should have attacked Saudi Arabia, whose people are arguably more oppressed than the people in Iraq were under Saddam, and where 15 of the 19 hijackers were actually from. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, and attempts to defend the war in Iraq by associating it with 9/11 and as some kind of us against "them" scenario is really unrealistic if you know anything about the real world.

I don't know about Islam for Dummies, but a little history would have helped. The Brits created the boundaries, but didn't look at tribal loyalties, so this all had to happen someday.

Look what happened to Yugoslavia. When the strong man holding the country together is toppled, chaos.

I don't believe anyone in the gov't was surprised by this. I think they realized it. That is why from day 1 they have preached about staying the course until the job is done, and not just giving up and running like a little sissy (Democrat).

Yes. I'm amazed at how many of them still don't have a clue about the problems caused by the Sunni/Shiite rift, where it comes from, and how we have affected the politics between the two. I think Pres. Bush tried in his heart to do a good thing, but his ignorance of the complexities has doomed it, which he should have seen coming.

A great question. Of course, the answer is yes Our lack of knowledge of Muslims and Islam is only surpassed by our lack of factual intelligence regarding Iraq as a threat to us. This administration has chosen arrogance over humility. Bush and his minions have had a go it alone mentality from day one. They have only listened to those who think like they do. You are right on the money. Islam is a foe without boundaries. We have lost whatever good will we had after 911.

I think they're putting the blame on an entire religion for the faults of a few groups of extremists. There are bad Christians, too.
