I think that they can charge you the cost, as pet damage is not normal wear and tear. You should, however, get a credit for betterment i.e. the difference in value between 4 year old carpet and new carpet.

Yes they can. Your pet caused damage to the carpet and usually you have to replace the full carpet to ensure that the pattern and colors match. It is part of a usual lease agreement that you, the renter, are responsible for any damage caused to the apartment beyond normal use. If the carpet was designed to last five years and it needs to be replaced after four years, you have caused damage to the carpet beyond normal use; therefore, you are responsible under a normal lease agreement for the cost of the carpet and repairs.

Normally when you have a pet, they takle a pet deposit for that very reason. So yes they can charge you for extensive damage to the carpet.

There are certain damages that are expected while renting places and landlords realize this, however, if you cause enough damage that something has to be replaced then you are responsible for it.

I find it odd that they are charging you to replace the whole carpet. But if you damaged it or your pet then they can charge you to replace it.

till your examine-in sheet shows latest puppy urine stains, you will finally end up paying the carpet alternative value. at present, landlords use black lighting fixtures furnishings to discover puppy urine stains. (shows up fairly for sure). besides, you are able to not anticipate that your canine did not have an accident or 2 till you suspect the critter 24/7. It basically takes ONE pee accident to ruin a carpet.
