and liberals as "lie-berals," do they realize that their question is basically worthless after labelling a group of people like that? Do they realize that name calling will result in nothing but childish BS? Do they realize that it is the reason that YA is home to practically no political debate?
I honestly used to believe that anyone who argues Politics is at least somewhat intelligent, regardless of who's side your on, but lately, I'm not so sure anymore

WinOne: ok, the word fascist is a bad example...... when liberal posters call someone a "redneck" because of their political beliefs might be a better example.

Totally agree. I at first started on here with bashing. I still will throw in my knock here or there but while answering the question in my political point of view. However kids kids kids will always be on here and destroy what could be good. It's either ignore them or don't play in here. I like to see how people feel and view our country. The jerks like Mrfeels just wreck that if you let them.
I will say one thing on this subject though. If this makes 10 more people vote and watch a debate or learn a canidates platform, than it has done some good.

You make a fair point.
However, there is an intelligent argument to be made that the Bush Administration has enacted policies which are comparable to policies enacted by fascist governments in the past. Check out the first link below and consider the state of our present national political climate for yourself.
That said, it's unfair to characterize all conservatives based on the actions of this president because George Bush is really just a conservative in name only. He certainly hasn't been fiscally conservative having spent more money than any president in US History. Eventually, taxes MUST be raised in order to pay off the debt HE created.
People who label those against Bush as traitors or "lie-berals" are either being funny or they take criticism of Bush personally, which quite frankly, is childish. Attacks against those against Bush outnumber attacks against his supporters at this site by about 2-to-1, sometimes more. To suppport that claim I've provided a second link below.

It makes people feel less unhappy about the fact that Labour is power, these types of insults you mention can sometimes be quite apt. Most of the time whoever these people are trying to generate propoganda catchphrases. The reason they try to create the catphrases is because they can be so catchy people can end up using without knowing why or what they mean. Y!Answers is run by the politically correct crew, you will not likely find any intelligent debates on this site, but there is always hope.

Name calling is the last resort to a bad arugement. Im pretty liberal, but I am conservative on a few issues.
Those who use those names in the questions are only inviting extreme answers, and likely will pick someone who agrees with them for the best answer, regardless of the intelligence of the answer.

I find the opposite. I want to read questions from people who are fired up about something. You don't have to answer them. There are plenty of softball questions you can answer.
What bothers me is when both sides start reporting people for posting something they don't agree with, and some pretty clever stuff gets slammed for being against YA guidelines. Labels are important. Semantics are important. Words mean things. Political questions don't always have clear cut answers, it's a lot of opinionated stuff. Skip the questions you don't like, and let the rest of us answer the questions we like!

You're right that many have more of an agenda of proselytizing than of asking a question. When an answer is being given, though (not asked), one must be reasonably free to express his true convictions.
The arena of politics, unfortunately, has ALWAYS been full of both fools and the intelligent.
Hang in there-- the enlightened must persevere for the sake of those unable to speak for themselves.

Actually, "fascists" are a specific political group, and most conservatives are not fascists.
Fascists believe in the use of force - military, political, financial - to resolve issues.
Conservatives believe in limited (or in extreme cases, no) government and laissez-faire as the proper way for an economy to operate.
Liberals believe in "the public good" and that government's role is to facilitate (or in extreme cases, mandate) that public good.
So there is your problem! When you get militarists, free-marketers and do-gooders talking about the same issue, they are never going to be able to agree about the nature of the question, much less arrive at a consensus response.
Most people who argue politics are not, in fact, debating (thesis, antithesis, synthesis). They are stating a credo. You will no more find "intelligent" political debate here (or I suspect anywhere outside of academia) than you will find intelligent debate about religion, and for the same reasons.
But that's the way our band of ex-plains apes operates, isn't it?
I sympathize.

I do believe that liberals are liars, but I don't use the term "lieberals". It grates on me whenever I see it. However, you really can't compare that term (which I find a bit childish) to calling someone a "fascist" (which is offensive, and is used to close out a debate when the Left knows that they're losing). Those terms are not at all comparable.

This is just where all the trolls from the message boards came when Yahoo shut them down. There was no intelligent debate there and there certainly isn't any here, since the forum isn't at all conducive to interaction.

To truly get involved in a debate of issues, can be a very intelligent and time worthy cause. Unfortunately you are not going to find many people of that mindset here on Y!A. If you find a better site, please let me know!
