Just a day?

Check the schedule and see if the Cardinals are playing. There's nothing like watching a team play in their home stadium and Busch Stadium is really nice, and a decent amusement park close by (Six Flags over St. Louis). There are also museums/shops to browse through downtown and along the river. The arch, is of course, spectacular, but just a big elevator with a view when it gets right down to it.

It would be worth your time to take MetroLink--it will hit the main spots in the city--the Arch & Laclede's Landing, Busch Stadium, St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame, Union Station, Forest Park (zoo, art/history museums, science center, etc...), University City Loop, Saint Louis Galleria, and much more.

The riverfront itself (Arch-Laclede's Landing MetroLink stop) has enough to do for one day--Arch, Riverboat cruises, helicopter tours, bike rentals, and dining on Laclede's Landing.

A one-day pass is $4.50 and it will get you all around town--you can even ride the train over the Mississippi River.

Aside from the obvious answer of the Arch, you could take in a Cards game at the new Busch Stadium. Speaking of Busch, you could take a tour of the Anheuser-Busch Brewery (complete with free samples at the end of the tour for those over 21), the St. Louis Science Center, the City Museum, the Zoo, and you can always visit Concordia Seminary, go to the top of their bell tower, and get a cool button that says "I climbed Luther Tower." (yay!)

Being from the area I would say the Arch and surrounding area is a must see. I have been up many many times. The Brewery is very cool, but if you are going with a family then Grants Farm is fun and an Anheuser Busch facility. AVOID Union Station, there is nothing to do there and horrible restaurants. The Hill and University City/Clayton/chesterfield are cool areas.

How old are you and what do you like to do??

Do see the arch (everyone sees it once... nobody sees it twice) and bring your camera.

Eat in Clayton or on Washington Avenue. If you like wine, go to Copia (www.copiawine.com)

Stay in Clayton ($$$) Westport ($$) or Downtown ($$).

If you want to gamble, go to Ameristar or Harrah's (Clean) ... avoid the Casino Queen or the President (Dirty, really smoky).

See the Laclede's landing, Delmar Loop.

Drink in Soulard or Washington Avenue or Central West End.

For artsy stuff: Visit Central West End, or Laumier Sculture park.

Play golf at Gateway internation golf course (IL); cheap, but very nice with a great view of the arch.

Depends on age, but I always recommend to visitors:
Sightseeing--Cathedral Basilica, Arch, architecture in general
Family stuff--City Museum, Zoo, Forest Park (or any of our parks, really), Cards game, Botanical Park, Science Center
Young hipster--The Loop, South Grand
For lunch and shopping $$--Central West End, Clayton

You'd be smart to go to the city, that way you can see a lot in a short period of time since everything is relatively close to each other, or at least closer than being in the suberbs a.k.a. "the county".

for a family outing i would say busch stadium for a game, the zoo, science center, city museum, botanical gardens, the arch.

if you are into the club scene try the landing.

I like the Arch but it is always crowded and sometimes not a great idea with kids.
If you want to shop, then go to the Galleria. Its a GREAT mall.
If you have kids, then either go to the zoo (really nice) or busch stadium to see a cardinals game. Busch Stadium is SO nice and pretty.

Good luck!
