What??? 35K???? Please don't answer questions if you have no idea of the correct answer. 35k only accounts for basic pay (pay that is taxed) BAH and BAH make up almost just as much of your pay, and that is tax free. Housing allowance varies depending on your duty station, but NO ONE makes less than 55k, and that's for new recruits. After graduating law school and getting commissioned, you start out as a 1st Lt. You'll make anywhere from 55k to 75k, depending on your BAH location. With tax breaks and other benefits, the real value is more like 65k to 90k. You are guaranteed promotion to Capt. after 6 months, which means about a 8k pay raise. Then another 5k pay raise every two years plus an 8k raise with every promotion. Plus you work a 40 work week, with time for fun and family. This applies to ALL services. That's why its so hard to get a job as a JAG. If they only paid 35k a year, no idiot would join. We get the best grads from the top law schools.
