As happy as I am to hear that you would adopt a kid, what does the possibly have to do with the question?
Now, on to the question at hand...First of all, no such thing as a $1000 bill. I would probably take the money. And so would you and the other people who want to feel good about themselves by saying that on this forum. You have no idea how you would react in such a situation because its probably not happened to you. Have you ever picked up a quarter? or a dollar? What did you do with that? I'd be willing to bet that $1000 bill that you would put it in your pocket and run to the first store you see for a little shopping spree. That's probably what I would anyway, but then again, maybe I just don't have the same moral fiber as you. Oh well, If this happens to me, I'll let you know what happens. Thanks and have a nice day.

I would pick it up very carefully. The bill was only produced in 1928 and 1934. It's worth $2195 and $4495. I would put up a few signs and an ad in the local paper saying "Treasury Bill found at XYZ location". I would not say what denomination the bill is. This is a collector bill. The person that lost it would know what year, and which mint, and most likely what serial number was on it. These bills were printed in low volume.
I'd also file a report at the police station.
If nobody made a claim, I'd sell the note to a collector.

I think you may have unreasonable expectations of what $1000 dollars is worth. If you wanted to go on your mission trip, that's admirable, but don't expect to have any left after you buy the plane tickets. Adoption is also admirable, but that takes a LOT more than $1000. Finally, if you give the bill to the police, they'll do the same thing I'd do- thank my lucky stars for the free $1000!

I'd try to find the owner.
PS There is no currency higher than $100 today, but there used to be bills all the way up to $10,000, and a $100,000 bill for bank/treasury transactions!
They got rid of the higher denominations some decades ago, because it's easier to catch criminals using smaller bills. Plus many transactions today are done by wire transfer.

I would call the FBI. There are currently no $1000 bills. If it is real it would be worth much more than $1000 to a collector since it is over 100 years old.

i'll ignore it and walk away. do you believe me?
I'm a cultivator of Falun Dafa - A Righteous Cultivation. It teaches me to not possess whichever does not belong to me, because there is a true princple in life that says 'No Loss No Gain'.
To gain, one might have to lose (something in return that is equivilant to the value of your gain). This is definitely the Law of the Universe, who nobody would deny even if he/she still chooses to grab that $1000 bill.
For a cultivator, maybe its easy to take things lightly, but for an everyday people, how many could resist the temptation that right before your very eyes?

If you just found the Bill, and there is no way to know who is belongs to then keep it, Possession is 9/10's of the Law.
I would tithe 10% to the Lord and then what you do with it is your privilage, you can donate it to a Homeless shelter, or pay some bills with it, or whatever.

I would report it to the local authority and after 30 days with no claims, I become the rightful owner.

I would report it and if within the designated time frame, no one showed up to claim it, I would donate school supplies for children who cannot afford basics for their education.
I once mailed $14.00 back to a gas station that had been erronously returned to me in change. I mailed it cause the gas station was 238 miles from my home.
