You need to de-activate your Operating System's built in firewall then restart the PC. Alternatively take a closer look at your web browser's toolbar. You should see the Norton Anti-Virus icon on there somewhere. It won't be that hard to miss. But usually you should see the icon on your desktop. If your computer still says you don't have it installed, you can download from the BT update site. Just go to 'Tools on your browser's toolbar and click on 'check for updates'. Norton should be installed during that download since the software is actually an add-on.

When you installed the hub it should have placed a 'Get BT Security' icon on your desktop. Double click this and follow the instructions. Installation should place icons in your toolbar and on your desktop which you can then use to switch the options on/off.
BTW, you need a minimum of 256M RAM. In practice this means 512M, because even if you have 256M of physical memory, it won't all be available (graphics etc). If you're unsure, right click the 'My Computer' icon and select Properties which will tell you.
If you have any other anti-virus/firewall which came with the machine or Windows you need to disable it or the two will fight like a sackful of ferrets.
Cannot agree with other answerers about Norton. It is an industry standard (as also is MacAfee) and is probably the system your bank etc uses. As for freeware - well you get what you pay for! It also auto-updates with new virus signatures as they are discovered, which is usually by the hundred each week!!

Put the disk that came with the home hub in your computer and open the disk to view files.
Look for a directory called Norton or anti-virus etc.
Open the directory and read any readme file or just click on setup or start etc.

BT did you a fav by not bundling that piece of junk into your system, you are better off using AVast Home which is free, faster, and more efficient.
www.avast.com
If you DO want Norton, you have to contact BT and they will assign you a licence code and a download link.
