x = -84

Subtract 4 from each side to isolate the x's and combine the x's, the divide each side by the coefficient of the x's to get the answer is the usual approach:

4 + x/3 - x/4 - 4 = -3 - 4
x/3 -x/4 = -7
4x/12 - 3x/12 = -7
x/12 = -7
(x/12) / (1/12) = (-7) / (1/12)
x/12 * 12 = -7 * 12
x = -84

4 + x/3 - x/4 = -3

Add negative four to both sides, to isolate those containing variables

4 + x/3 - x/4 + (-4) = -3 + (-4)

Combine constant

x/3 - x/4 = -7

Multiply 12 to both sides to remove denominators

12 [ x/3 - x/4 = -7 ]

4x - 3x = -84

Combine like terms

x = -84
