Pomegranates require well drained soil, full sun, heat in summer but surprisingly will tolerate sub freezing temperatures. Not arctic conditions, but they will take several degrees below freezing. Since they flower on new wood, if the plant dies back somewhat in winter, no harm. Just prune off the dead and keep going.

Chris, you may place the plant outside for the summer. However, slowly adjust the plant to sunlight. Maybe a few hours at a time for the first few days. But after that don't worry these plants thrive in areas with hot summer temperatures and love full sun. As for the winter it must be brought back indoors.

Pomergranites are tropical by origin so I would think they require a sunny spot
