Normally, when your computer comes a problem, it will make a report to Macrosoft automatically. Once the report is recevied, a solution will be prepared and sent to your computer by internet. That's what you call "update". This procedure needs internet.
So, if you don't use internet, you have to consider the following questions before considering your question.
1. Can you find out what you need to update.
2. Do you have your own solution to solve your computer's problem.
3. Where can you send your problem to, if you know the problem
4. If you don't have internet, it is very inconvient.
My suggestion is " keep running your windows update with protection of anti virus.

You can't. There has to be a connection to their data base to do an update. The only way to do that is via the internet. There would be no way for your computer to receive the downloads without it.

I'm fairly sure that you must connect to the Windows Update site in order to get most recent updates. I've never tried getting these files any other way (ie. Saving to a folder and installing from that folder)

you can download windows xp Service Pack 2 (SP2) seperately and install later. Type Windows XP Service Pack 2 in Google and you will find plenty of sources to download the file. I believe its around 200 meg in size. Otherwise if you dont have access to the internet, you will need to have microsoft send you a copy via CD. The number for ordering is on their website.

You can't
The updates are on M$'s site, therefore no internet = no updates.
SOME are available offline such as SP2, but unless you already have it, it can't be installed, as you'd need the internet to get it.
