Well actually I suspect that it's simply a natural tendency of some of the more vociferous individuals to continually Oh sod it i don't know.

I am thinking there are several reasons why they would do this. Speaking of "they", who is "they" really. I suppose I mean the uncounted nameless masses. So let's just assume that I really don't have anyone in mind when I say "they". My uncle had someone in mind when he said it, but anyway...

I think what is worse than someone who is wasting space, as I call it, by writing their life story as a part of their answer is someone who will just ramble and after all is said and done has not answered the question that you asked. Don't you just hate when that happens. I was reading a question from someone who needed help. They proceeded to tell EVERY detail from every year they were in school from Kindergarten thru Senior in High School. I was about to shoot myself after reading it.

And just when you think they have finished, the misery continues. If the responses were credible (and not those mindless "I'm going to copy and paste the whole Wikapedia entry") and not a long drawn out silly answer... We might have a different tone to how we perceive the answer.

Because it weeds out the people who really care about the answer and are willing to spend a long time reading to gain a deep understanding of the topic about which they asked from those who are merely posting a question they don't care about because they were bored and had nothing better to do.

Whew.

it all started when this guy, midtown worker with bad shoes came along.he was a normal guy, standard features, with no long term goals..any way he was walking down the street and came apon a little salamander.the salamander had red and black spots on it.this caught the eye of the guy.he picked up the salamander and peered into its eyes...they were black as the night.the salamander started to hipnotize the guy.the guy ,being very seseptible to hypnotizsm, was hypnotized to think he was a bus for the salamander.and began carrying it around the city.the salamander had big dreams.it wanted to runa bagle factory....and be the big salamander of the bagle industry.the guy unwittingly fell prey to the salamander.carrying it here and there...the salamander was on its way to the big time.....

Sometimes, when I'm scrolling through the answers I don't bother to read the long ones.

Some questions require long answers, they are sometimes several questions, each needing an answer.
Some answerer's copy and paste huge documents pretending it is their work, others at least list their source.
Sorry if this is too long, the question demanded it was this length.
