i received a very dodgy looking letter asking me to phone a number saying it will be advantageous to me to phone it can anybody tell me what their line of investigation involves please all answers very welcome xx

Yeah, another scam.

Shred it or send it to your local Trading Standards office ..

DO NOT, under ANY circumstances contact them in ANY WAY at all.

1) They want you to phone them because 'Premium Rate' numbers can charge £10 a minute (or part) ...


If your are LUCKY it will only be some dubious Time Share scam .. if you are not, they will be total con-merchants ..

They will take your 'polite' answers to mean your agreement to switch your Electricity / Gas / Telephone / Mobile Phone package (or accept a loan or new Credit Card) and charge you god knows how much ... it will take you years of aggro. to get switched back and your Credit Rating may go down the pan whilst you try to 'undo' any loans etc. they signed you up for ..

Finally there are the out & out criminals ...

They will try to 'suck you in' by asking 'innocent' questions ... ("mothers name", "place of Birth", "first school" = are all answers to Security Questions) and as soon as they have anything that can be used to get into your Bank or Credit Cards they are off to empty your accounts ...
