It takes time for the Earth to turn toward the sun and it certainly depends on the season. Not all species on Earth, Americans or otherwise, can have sunlight at the same time. The bigger/wider the country the longer lasting sunlight hours.

Yes it is just due to the size of the land mass. For instance, the old Soviet Union had 11 time zones!

The USA is one of the largest countries in terms of land, so it overlaps more time zones. Time zones are determined by geography, not political boundaries.

Because from West to East, USA is wider and when the sun comes up and goes down, it's different for parts of the country.

Duh, because the US has a big area. And there are many other countries that have numerous time zones as well, i.e. Canada, Russia (I think about 12 time zones), Australia, etc.

russia has 5, and they are part of 2 continents asia and europe

when the sun rises in California, it has already been up three (or sometimes four) hours in Maine.
