My friend and I were just assigned a project on the decade of the 1960s. We have one week, and we LOVE the decade. Obviously, there are PLENTY of choices from this decade, but since we are just in high school, we thought some people might have different perspectives of the era. If you have any suggestions, go for it! We need political (JFK, LBJ), culteral (the 60s in the flesh....), anything pertaining to this era! Thanks!

The Vietnam war dominated the politics at the end of the decade as the Iraq war does now, but the most long lasting thing that transformed the country was the civil rights movement and the passage of laws that protected the rights of Backs in the south. The most memorable moment was when Johnson threw his support behind the movement by using their slogan in a speech "We shall overcome"
The role of women in society changed during the decade from stay home wives and mothers to being career orientated and joining the workforce, delaying marriage and having smaller families.

You win right off the bat because you're asking a week before it's due!!
I'd go with Viet Nam - how we became embroiled in a War we had no business being in.
The War led to the "Hippie" counterculture because these kids didn't know when they would be called up and possibly killed (for what?).
JFK to LBJ then that wuss Carter. It's still effecting everyday life.
I could go on for hours - but won''t bore you. The worst was the "Body Counts" we got on the Network News every night at dinner time. Sometimes my father would have to leave the room.

There are so many options, here!

I think the greatest political item from this decade is the Vietnam war. I also think that the greatest cutural topic is the Civil rights movement.

If you have to choose ONE topic, perhaps you can focus on the role of minority military personnel during the war (disproportionate numbers drafted/ killed/wounded, etc.). That will cover a lot of ground!
