* If it's not a permanent move to the US, make a list of what you'd like to see and write an itinerary for your stay to keep all 3 of you entertained, whether historical, sight seeing, visiting as many places as possible, etc. (You'll be much happier, and tired, when you get home).
* Price out airlines (and hotels) before buying the tickets
* If your daughter is still little, keep it fun for her and bring her things to occupy her.
* US cars and roads are flip-flopped to Europe; if you're not used to the inverted view or controls, better get a lesson or two in.
* All the souvenirs you buy will take up space. Remember you have to pack them and bring them all home.
* Speaking of 'buy', currency conversion for 1 Euro is roughly $1.35
* Make a travel budget, depending how long you will stay
* If you go out to eat, a 15-20% tip is usually accepted as is not added into the total, depending on the service you receive. Waitstaff here make next to nothing an hour.
* A suggestion: If you're going to take a picture, it will be more memorable if you are in it than an empty cityscape.
* Wear comfy shoes, you'll be walking a lot.

* When you are not visiting family in a foreign land, it's hard to know exactly where to start. The only wrong way is to do no research. But definitely make the most of your money and time on your trip no matter where you go or what the weather.

Safe travels!

the best way is to fly.
boats take a long time (and cost too much), and swimming even longer. ;)

you'll need passports, airline tickets, and proof of sufficient funds.

I would suggest you go over to:

www.visapro.com

then join the forum and find others that have done just what you intend on doing.

you'll need passports and if this is a first, I strongly suggest a travel agent.
