I was injured at the Normal Public Library in Normal, Illinois, located in
Mclean County, Illinois. Would it be normal for a library to take responsibility for harming a person?

Not if it is a liberal public library. A liberal public library would blame the injury on George W. Bush. However, a conservative public library WOULD take responsibility if THEY were the cause of the injury.

It's not a matter of what their policy is, unless you're referring to their INSURANCE policy. Any place that "invites" the public in must take reasonable care to avoid presenting a hazard to people who are exercising reasonable caution. If there was a dangerous condition that caused your injury, and for some reason you could not see, appreciate or avoid that condition, then the library will be responsible, and their liability insurance will compensate you. If you just weren't paying attention, and that's the reason you got hurt, that's not their fault.

What is the extent of your injury? If you fell, that's on you. People walk up and down stairs and over different terrain all the time. You'll need to ask to speak with the Library manager about their policies.

You will have to describe the injury. If the librarian attacked you with a thesarus then it may be possible to get the library to pay for the damages. If you were climbing the stacks and fell down then odds are you are going to have to pay your own medical bills.

That would depend on how you were injured. You would have to prove they were negligent or put the patrons in jeopardy? If however you were doing something that caused your injury then they are not resposible for your injury.

you have to prove that there was malicious intent or neglect on their part. i worked at the Hayner Library in Madison County, IL and i know that it is just like any other government owned operation.

Good grief, how do you expect anyone here to have any information that would pertain to this specific library and your specific unusual situation?

depends.. can you prove their neglegence contributed to your injury? check your library card.. since you pay nothing to the library for your membership, usually they will say it is at your own risk (or something to that exent) to keep their own costs down.

hope you feel better
