My fence is 6 feet high and about 260 feet all the way around. 31 sections of 8 feet long, 6 ft high fence. I need to tell painting contractors and I am not sure what to say the sq footage is.

One side would be 1560 s.f both sides would be 3120 s.f.

Formula is length x height

I make it 248 feet, not 260 (31 x 8 = 248). But tell him the length and the height, if he can't figure the square footage, get another contractor.

The 6x260 section is 1560 sq ft. I am not sure if the 31 sections you mention are in addition or if that is just another description of the first part. If they are additional they will add 31x8x6 for another 1488 sq ft.

1560 sq. feet for one side of the fencing, 3120 to have both sides painted.

1560 for one side. If they're painting both sides then it's 3120.

(don't forget to ask for a can of the left over paint so you can do touch-ups later on your own.)

1560 sq. ft. (one side). Just tell them the linear footage and height and they should be able to figure it out. They also might require knowing how many posts you have, gates, etc... depending on how they bid.

it would be about 1500 square feet if they are painting just one side, 3000 if painting both sides
