i had a urinary tract infection due to the catheter and i've been on some heavy antibiotics because of some complications. i'm still having issues like i still have a urinary tract infection. my gyno told me to just drink cranberry juice and take some pills for a yeast infection. he also said he had to move my bladder so it could take a little time for it to go back into place.

Your doctor is right. The bladder can experience some 'shock' after a hysterectomy. Increase your intake of cranberry juice - it increases the pH of your urine and makes it an unfirendly place for bacteria to grow. Eat more yogurt or take an OTC med called AZO. There's lactobacillus in it which counteracts yeast. None of these are instant cures - they can take up to a week to notice a difference. The antibiotics probably caused the yeast infection and they can give you something for the UTI.

Additionally, try not to hold your urine in. It can make a nice enviornment for the bacteria and you want to eliminate it out of your body. Also wipe front to back and not back to front which can introduct bacteria into your urethra unexpectantly.

It is very normal! There is a great chance that your doctor or nurses will tell you that most people have no complications after a hysterectomy... but if you talk to other women and get their opinions you will find that a lot of women go through things like this. Especially with infections. A lot of times doctors will place a netting under your bladder to hold it in place, to prevent sagging... the usually do this during the hysterectomy. I would make sure you get your infection cleared up and then speak to your physician about that possibility.

I had a hysterectomy a year ago and the problems you are having are normal. I passed a little blood in my urine about six weeks after my surgery and it lasted for about two weeks. I drank lots of water and cranberry juice...hang in there...it gets better!

the bladder has to be pulled out of position to reach the uterus, and sometimes it never goes back into position, I waited four months before I went back and insisted on having a bladder lift. No problems since.
