Has anyone ever set shoes on fire for any reason at all? Just to see how'd they burn? Revenge? Like the smell? Some sort of fetish?

Yes... My brother once set my favorite pair of heel sandals on fire...
Since all were man made materials... the sandals burn out completely and the only things that stayed in one piece was the tubular rod that supports the heel and a steel beam that shapes the arch... other else were ashes...
