is the home run record a racism issue?

2007-05-14 05:03:21 · 12 answers · asked by you 6 in Sports Baseball

ok....why do people SAY that Bud Selig is racist?

is OJ Simpson racist for killing his white wife? after all, he is "innocent until proven guilty".

frankly, people, i'm not saying he is or isn't. i'm just using this thing called Yahoo Answers... to .... hold on to your seat .... get an answer.... from people. regarding their opinions.

i once heard a wise (wo)man say ... "don't jump to conclusions. you might be accused of being narrow-minded"

actually, emeka, that is EXACTLY my point. however, due to the intelligence of the average Yahoo Answerer, most people will come back w/ a 3 yr old argument (see some above answers) when stared in the face w/ the obvious. thank you for being my "planted audience member" and falling right into the trap. now, hopefully the 3 yr olds can graduate and become 4 yr olds.

i've learned that if you're too straight-forward w/ some things that are obvious, you just get little kiddies basically doing the equivalent of calling each other "dummy", and "poopyhead" on these forums. so i decided to take the subtle approach, by "baiting my hook" w/ an outlandish claim. some people bit. some people bit hard. a few people, pointed out the hook. all are important to the nature of the question, but those who didn't bite ..... don't have a "hook in their mouth" .... now do they?

what's also is interesting is that not once did i mention steroids, yet folks are leaping off that flaming tower in attempt to save themselves. lol. typical Americans.

This answer will serve to add supporting detail to the Questioner's line:

Bud Selig and Hank Aaron are close friends.... last I checked... racism takes an entire race bundles them all into one and packages it's attack/discrimination against all members of that race.....

So, if Bud Selig is infact a "racist," How can he be friends with Hank Aaron?.... Logic and common sense wouldn't allow it... So, maybe it is that Selig isn't a racist.... Maybe he just doesn't like Barry Bonds... But is tip-toeing around the situation, because he has to be politically correct in the light of the media (which to me is complete and utter B.S. in and of itself... He should be able to say what and how he feels.)....

Now, because Barry Bonds is black (and disregarding the fact that he COULD be a cheater...and the chase for the record COULD be a farce).... everybody automatically jumps on the Selig doesn't like Bonds because he's black bandwagon.... I agree with the questioner.... This logic is DUMB! Clearly, it is the thinking of the uneducated and misinformed.

My question to you is how would the chase of the home run record be a racist issue when the holder is black and the person chasing is black?? But you probably wasnt thinking this when you asked the question.

The fact that people believe it to be a issue is cause many still believe he used steriods. Hank Aaron isnt even going to attend the game thats puts him in first place and he has ever right too. When he did it it meant something to the nation, Barry doing it means nothing to be honest.

With so many races playing baseball, if there was an race issues it would be know. Look at any roster in the majors and you will see at least 4 different races.

Racism!? I don't know about Bud Selig, but regarding the home run record: of course not! Hank Aaron is the person whose record is in jeopardy, and he was black. So don't be ridiculous. There are two reasons everyone hates Barry Bonds: 1. He is a jerk. 2. He took steroids (and it HAS been proven, he freakin' admitted it. He just never was officially caught). If it were Ken Griffey Jr. or Alex Rodriguez going for the record, few would be complaining.

I'm surprised and awed. I have not been this amazed considering that Bonds was once accused of steroids. Who could have inspiration Bud Selig knew approximately steroids and did not anything for years? Certainly now not I.

It is a racist issue when you really think about it. After all, the top 2 HR hitters of all time are black, the 3rd player all-time is white, fourth place is black, and it winds its way down. I find it particularly odd that not one Chinese player has even one HR ever. That is RACIST and I want to know why Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson (the 2 biggest moronic racists in the world) have not yet started a cause with the Commissioners Office regarding this cause.

Its amazing the guy is still playing. It is devaluing the record that a man can gain it by cheating, taking steroids.

it is not about race...its about playing by the rules...its about the intergity of the game.
Bonds has a shaddy past.....Aaron just played.
But....I do not think steroids made Bonds the player he is....talent did that....
Give him the respect he deserves.....he is still hitting the ball hard at 43
