At times it seems a purely narcissistic endeavor. However, if directed to a specific group that is a willing audience then it can be much like any other mode of informative trafficking.

But I'm an abstruse resource for opinion on this matter because I am bitter and disillusioned about the whole thing:)

It gives you a place to post articles and let others post replies. It can be used in many ways. I have a public education group that uses a blog to write short education articles, to which the public replies with positive/negative comments, and/or questions, (plus commenter's email address, if commenter wishes to receive a personal response). Thus, a blog need not be restricted to use as *just* a personal diary.

In this case, the "links" section is also used to post useful links to other blogs and similar resources related to the public education group's "bent".
