Please describe what kind of errors are you receiving from Microsoft Updates. If you have a valid key for your Windows XP, there should be no problem. You will not get your updates with Microsoft using their "WGA", (Windows Genuine Advantage tool, to verify your platform is legal).
You can email me if you wish.
Try the way recommended by others, or go to start in your tray and open, Windows Updates, and after the webpage loads, click on automatic updates. Microsoft will scan your pc for all critical updates that you need and then you just download them and they will install. Sometimes you have to reboot after certain kinds of critical updates.

Hello Loana,
Try running Windows Update after you have deleted the temporary internet files on your computer. If the problem persists then try asking your system to do the update for you by itself.... I mean turn on automatic windows updates....
Settings -->Control Panel --> Automatic Updates--->And Select the automatic radio button and click on OK.
Now your computer would automatically perform the update process for you without your having to use your explorer window....

You have several options:
you can manually update the patches from microsoft;
You can copy & paste the error message to Microsoft support, they usually reply with options for you within 24 hours,
You can reinstall windows without replacing any files........

I had this problem once and it was a spyware program/virus kind of problem. Run your anti virus and clean up all your cookies etc. I use McAf antiV and it has a clean up program as part of it. Hope this works for you. Sorry if it doesn't. I was told most of the time spyware will try to stop you from doing updates on programs that might detect it.

Go to Start-Control Panel-Windows Updates.
From here you can force your computer to update without use of the website version.

Try emptying your temporary internet files by going to 'Tools', Internet Options, 'Browsing History', Delete.
These are the approximate instructions because I don't know what version of IE you are using.
You could also try doing a disk clean-up to clear out other temporary files

Try and get them from Microsoft Updates instead of Windows updates:
