They will probably hope none of them wasted the time going to college and learned how to survive: finding shelter, food, water (although there should be plenty of canned goods to keep them alive for a long time). They should hope at least one of them is proficient with guns and other medium to long range weapons (bows) to protect them from the predators (you did say just humans were killed). One should have a good basic mechanical knowledge so they might be able to use the technology lying around, although there might not be any means of generating electricity left (unless nuclear power plants were still on line) (I would much rather have someone with a technology degree than an engineering degree because the technicians are the ones who actually make the things work that engineers dream up) One of them should have a good knowledge of gardening and perhaps animal husbandry although 5 people are not going to use up all the meat animals around the world anytime soon.

The most important skills are not taught in college: How to find food, shelter, water and use weapons. Decent knowledge of geography would be nice, but even more important would be the ability to read since you can find out what you need to know about all the rest from a major library.

Survival- If only 5 people left on Earth then they must first learn to survive in order to reach each other ( you didn't say they were together).

Botany - for immediate survival. Knows what's edible or medicinal and what's not

mechanical Eng. - build almost anything

medicine - take care of the ills and accidents

animal husbandry - knows about raising food animals

geography - knows about the lay of the land and what it contains

and all with a minor in ROTC and taken at least one class in survival strategies besides being able to take and give orders as well as function independently when the need arises.

Medicine
Agriculture
Naturalist (not necessarily college-educated)
Engineering or Physics
Well rounded: one positive person with no (particular) major- just good with their hands and mind. A jack (or jill) of all trades.

hmmm: that spells "MANEW". The new beginning of mankind?

Here's my take on the issue:
1) will want to have majored in Government. After all, without a political system to ***** about what fun would life be?
2) will want to have majored in Medicine. The common cold could easily wipeout the remaining 5 members of the human race.
3) will want to have majored in the Arts. Somebody has to make funny, right?
4) will want to have majored in Law. The second thing to happen after these five realize they're the only ones left...they'll want to sue one of the others.
5) will want tohave majored in Science. Specifically cloning...5 humans equal one very sorry gene pool and unless the remaining humans are happy with children that have three eyes, water on the brain, one leg and eight fingers...they'll need to start cloniing to survive more than one generation.

In no specific order, and assuming that a similar social
structure is the goal of re-civilization:
Healthcare
Physics
Biology
Religion
Chemistry

In my opinion, all other disciplines can be derived from some
combination of those five.

I don't believe it would matter too much what they majored in. Natural survival skills and common knowledge would provide them more use than what the sheet of paper saying what they were supposed to know.
