I have just graduated from college, and I am try ing to throw away some stuffs, so that I can go back to my country. But, I cannot decide weather I should throw away note from classes or keep them. I may not look at them so many times, but I paid about $30 per hour for tuition, and these are evidence and good memory of my college like. However, the problem is there are so bunch of notes.... It is going to be several hundred $$ for shipping, and there are no space to keep them in my apartment back home. What should I do? (Whichever your opinion is...) Can anybody give me good reasons which I won't regret?

hello.

well the thing is will you be using what you learnt in college in your job/life if so please keep them around... just in case you forget something (i know i have)

if you're too constrained for space... scan them and save em.... ask a friend for a scanner. no $$ or space problems.

The problem with saving your notes is that it will be very difficult to quickly search for the information you need. This is even more so if some time passes. Some day we will have the technology that will allow us to digitize the notes so we can run a search. Such technology exists now but it is limited and doesn't justify the time you will spend.

I don't think you will use your notes because it will be much easier to look something up from a book or on the Internet. Also, it is not practical to retain the formula for calculating the surplus caused by decrease in demand or how to integrate by parts. As long as you know those things exist, that is good enough.

You might want to keep the notes if you are planning to go to graduate school but only those classes related to your area of study. Otherwise, I'd say get a big recycling bin and go have a party afterwards.

I have 4 college degrees (a bachelor's, a master's, and 2 doctorates, and I've never kept notes. I'll admit, though, that I'm in a field that changes rapidly, so anything more than a year or two old is obsolete. I suppose it might be different if I were studying something like history or philosophy, which changes only very slowly. In general, though, what is the likelihood you will ever look at these things again? I would vote for throwing them out (but then, I hate clutter!).

it all depends. If the college class I am taking is say part 1 like Human Bio 1, and I am taking after it Human Bio 2 then I keep everthing since I find stuff like that builds on itself. Or if its a history class and I take something like US History and Know I will be taking something like Civil War History, or something that was covred in the other course I may only keep the test and notes and what not that covred that as a suplment study to the next course work. Otherwise I dispose of all my old stuff after the smester is over, but I do keep on disk a copy of all my papers I have written just incase I can pull from one of them again in another course I am taking.

Buy a scanner for about $75 and scan the notes into your computer. You can keep all of them on two or three CDs.

Then you can throw away the notebooks.

Maybe you could just borrow the scanner or use one at the school computer lab, or what might be even easier is to use a digital camera and take pictures of the notebook pages. I have done that with some of my field notes and it has worked very well. It's fast and easy.

go through them and select one of your favorite chapters of notes from each class, and toss the rest.

that way, you'll have a favorite memory from each of your classes, but you won't have massive amounts of notes! :)

your favorite lessons will have the most sentimental value anyway, so keep those & get rid of the other stuff.

:o)

i would thing it depends on weither or not your going to go on to Graduate school, it really helps if you keep the notes for the dirrection your going to go in Graduate School.

Also, i think you might keep some things like math or science notes in case your future job might need it.
