It depends on how sure I am that the event I am hopeful of / excited about will actually happen. If there is a strong possibility, I usually get my hopes up. If it's not that likely to occur, I don't get my hopes up (then if it actually happens, it's a pleasant surprise).

If you're too cautious, you never get any excitement out of life. On the other side, if you're too excited, you're constantly dissapointed. Try to find a happy medium between the two.

Yes all the time because if you don't get your hopes up you can be disappointed. and I have found that the time when i'm disappointed the most is when i was hoping for the best.

I try not to have unreasonable expectations. I no longer get overly excited as I once did but I still hope. I think though without disappointments you won't appreciate what you have or will get.

Yes. I was "raised" by unmedicated manic depressives who would promise the world (new cars, vacation, shopping spree) but then end up taking it back or worse even taking the stuff I already had to sell for their drug addictions.

After awhile you learn to never expect anything and never believe promises, that's hard to unlearn even as an adult.

Not that I won't get disappointed, but I don't expect much or anything.
Then if and when I do get something more than that, it's a real pleasure to receive.

oh yeah, and I still do get disappointed once in a while.

I try to keep a positive outlook, but I dont get my hopes up. That way if things dont go my way I'm not disappointed...but if they do it's a really nice surprise!

A couple of years ago, my parents got divorced. Now, they always tell me things they think I want to hear to make themselves look better than the other! Now if they tell me they are gonna buy me something or take me somewhere, they usually don't! Long story short, Yes!

Nah... I get my hopes up and surf whatever emotion flows from it. I'd much rather live hopeful in this world than constantly protecting myself. Just call me Pollyandrea.

Always!
iv learnt that if i get too excited about something and it does not turn out the way i want it to i get very upset and emotional, that is why Strength is very important, having Self Control, sometimes you just have to, for yourself , for your heart!
