Public universities and Private universities come in all sizes, shapes and qualities.

The very best colleges in the country are private -- but so are many of the worst. How does one compare Harvard or Duke to Liberty or St John's University?

As for public universities -- many are excellent and some are not. Many states have one school that is the crown jewel in their state system. The best state schools in California, Texas, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Virginia, for example, are places where you can get as good an education as anywhere. However, each of those states has schools that aren't particularly good. There is a big drop-off in quality between UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC-WIlmington, for example.

You may want to look at sites like US News. They rank schools in different categories.

I agree with the first person who said it depends. I have gone to both and I think my education was better at the public university over the private university but that is because the public one had a better curriculum in my major. So it depends on what type of program you are in and your level of performance.

I do not think that good and bad corelate very well at all with public and private. First of all you have good and bad public and private institutions, good and bad programs within them and in the end whether a student gets a good or bad education depends a great deal on the student.

I have been a secondary teacher for many years. In my opinion, what you will get out of your education depends on the effort you are willing to put into it. Public and private institutions have both excellent and poor instructors. Are you a poor or excellent student is the better question.

I don't think it really matters.
I went to a community college because it was a good place to start and get my associate's degree.
