I am a straight married male, who wears clogs. I enjoy wearing them because they feel so great and comfortable. They are easy to put on and take off. I also think they look great. The fact is that I am not gay. I guess some gay men wear clogs too. Don't gay men also wear sneakers, boots, loafers, and other styles? So why is it the clog that is associated with being gay. Is it because women are the people who are mostly seen in clogs? Women are the sex mostly seen in sandals too, but male sandal wearers don't get the gay label. The clogs I wear are mostly Danskos. Dansko's mens clogs do not look effeminate at all. They do not look like women's shoes. I also have some wood-soled clogs, that also don't look effeminate. I have seen women's clogs too, and there is a difference in how they are made. It is just as obvious as the difference in mens and womens sandals. You can tell the difference. So when you see a man in clogs, why is he automatically assumed to be gay?

I think if you are a straight man and confidant in your masculinity -- forget about those other poeples opinions!
Those that go around judging and labeling others due to their external appearance are shallow & naive and need to get a life of their own (& pobably scrutinize themselves a bit instead).
I love a man who dares to be comfortable with himself.
And yeah... they are comfy, huh???

You seem to know what you are talking about, you already have the answer.

Clogs look gay on men because women wear them. It is as simple as that.
If you have someone calling you gay, I suggest saying that you are from a Dutch culture, or perhaps you are?

I personally would not judge you for what you wear. People tend to judge everything though, you cannot do anything about it.

I had to go to Dansko's website to kind of see what you were talking about. While they aren't feminine looking, they aren't attractive AT ALL. I hate chunky looking shoes (like those). As for them being labeled as 'gay', clogs have mostly been used to identity a woman's style of shoe, not mens. So when you say clogs (and I assume thats what the people who answered this question did), they picture the ones the are heeled and feminine. I wouldn't let my boyfriend wear them...but like I said, I don't like chunky, clunky shoes...I'm more of a fan of sleeker lines (not a fan of men wearing flipflops either...I don't care how pretty your feet are).

I see many grown (i guess manly too) men wear those rubber clogs, and I don't think gay. I just think ugly. But I've never heard anyone say that men who wear clogs are gay.

well, have you ever seen a female with hardly any curves, short hair, no make-up, either boxy t-shirt or tight tank. Keys on a chain on her belt loop, work boots.... you get the point. And right away think she is a "dike"? Somethings look better on males, somethings look better on females. Mostly its how you carry yourself and present yourself. On a VERY select few the above description some women could carry it off and look sexy on most females it looks butch. Same with men, a VERY select few could wear clogs and pink shirts on most of you it looks gay. Its just the way it is

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

I guess it's because so many people have become experts at labeling people for what they wear. Shallow minded folks, I'd say. How pathetic!!!!!!!!!!
