I think it sounds really old school and really cute.
Julia Roberts named one of her twins that...so it must be cool ;)
I can't help thinking of the WAY old TV show about the maid named Hazel but trust me, not a lot of people are going to remember that. Plus? Even if they do, Hazel was da bomb.

My mother's name is Hazel. She plays piano and other instruments and is able to by by ear. She is quiet inward type, sort of on the shy side. She did not like the nick names that goes with it. When younger she had dark brown long hair and her eyes are of a hazel color too. She was a practical and domestic sort of person when I was growing up. She was actually a very hard person to get to really know, even I as her daughter am saying this. I hope this helps about what the name Hazel means at least to me.

I just asked this question a month or two ago. I found Hazel as a name in my family and thought it was really pretty. A lot of people say its old fashion or the teasing of "witch hazel"... but "old fashion/grandma" names are coming back into style. Most people I asked about on Answers! didnt like it - they perfer more common names now like Isabella, Emily or David and Jacob. However! When I asked my family and friends all of them thought it was just so sweet. I imagaine a Hazel as a sweet, shy yet intelligent and classy young girl. Not to brassy but not to weird. I first heard the name in the movie "The Cider House Rules" because this sweet little angel, named Hazel, got adopted. She was exactally as I describe what I imagne a Hazel to be. Julia Roberts named her daughter Hazel and Julia said she looks and acts just as I describe.
Hazel may make one think of the plant/tree - which is a soft sage green, the color, the healing plant (witchhazel) or hazel nuts - yummy! :) A really nice, not common boys version of Hazel is Hazlet.
My husband just adores the name and we are thinking of Hazel Grace. So... in short terms - LOVE IT! KEEP IT!:)

I love the name Hazel and wouldn't mind being called that. When I hear the name Hazel I automatically think of a tranquil person who takes a subtle approach to love and life. They may possess strength in the arts - poetry, music, dancing, visual arts, etc. - or literature. That's what I see in my mind's eye when I hear the name Hazel

I like that it is a classic name, but i always think of an old woman when i hear the name hazel. I would not like the name for myself or my children, but at least it is not a very popular name right now. though there are some really pretty and even intresting, and strong old fashioned names that you might consider useing,
Genevieve
Grace
Prudence
Deirdre
Georgia

Madelline
Isabel
Lily or Lillian

Well being a Julia Roberts fan I would say it is cool however other than that it sounds like the name of an older lady. I personally would think of would your daughter like that name at 15 or will she hate you for any ridicule it may cause her. I know baby naming is a hard thing so good luck.

Hazel is a unique name. You never hear it any more. Alot of the older things are coming back but, it just depends on the middle name. My grandmother and mother always said when you name your kids make sure you yell the first and middle name as if they were in trouble. You have to make it serious. If its hard to spit out while your yelling their name they are only gonna laugh at you. It works to. I named mine Khira Diane and Mckenzy Lynne. I did not get tongue tied with either and they know I'm serious now when i use the middle name.

I think about that old TV show about that maid/cook person named Hazel
And I think of the thing called witch hazel they sell in drug stores.
I sure would NOT want to be called that! I got teased enough with the nasty name my parents actually gave me.

Hazel is old fashioned; makes me think of an older lady, but that older lady had to be a baby at some time in her life.
If you like it, go with it.

I think it's a pretty name. I have a friend named Hazel and she happens to have hazel eyes too, so it's pretty cool. I'd loved to be named Hazel, as I have hazelnut complexion.
