As for being paid more in his early to mid-30s than he made in his "prime" years, that's how most sports contracts work. You prove yourself during your prime, and are often rewarded with bigger contracts as you get out of those prime years.
As for the money itself, I don't think he's overpaid. I'm not sure that anyone deserves $27m for playing anything, but if the money is out there, then why shouldn't Alex get his piece of it? Nobody put a gun to Tom Hicks' head when he put that contract on the table, and nobody forced the Yankees to make the trade. More power to Alex for getting as much as he did.
Finally, I'd just note that he's "only" being paid $23m this season, with $4m deferred. About $40m of his current deal is deferred money that will be paid out between 2016 and 2025.

Everyone in sports is overpaid and everyone on the Yankees (17-19) is WAY over paid including Alex. The Yankees have like 3 20 million dollars a year salaries and 10 10million per year and they SUCK! Look at Milwaukee and Detroit they have no more than 2 or 3 guys making over 10 a year and both are doing just fine!

I think he should make whatever he's getting more so than Clemens should be getting his $18 million or so. Either way, the Yankees pay way too much for players just to keep them away from other teams. Oh, and look how much it helps them...3rd in the East @ 2 games under .500 Great job Stanks.
And no, I'm not a Red Sox fan...I'm a Tigers Fan!

Why is his 25 million too much? Tom Cruise got 75 million for Mission Impossible 3, and that movie sucked! Simon Cowell gets 33 million a year for being on American Idol and he just sits and listens to people sing.
A-Rod actually has to play a very hard game. Yes he makes more than anyone else in baseball, but in comparrison to what people make in Hollywood, its not that much.

370 mill is a lot to lots yet 270 mill over 10 years isn't to lots. And he could defintly brake the abode run data we could see he has 518 desirable now with the record presently 762. enable's say barry hit 20 this year so the record could be 782. so as that lets say he performs 10 greater years and hits and averge of 30. Homers a year. that must be 3 hundred 818. additionally on the RBIs He has 1503 the record is 2293. He ought to unquestionably smash that with interior the subsequent 10 years. The record of runs is 2295. He has 1501 he ought to smash that record to.

Everyone baseball player is overpaid, I dont know how anyone could even argue that. However in proportion to what everyone gets paid, I think it's "right" (i think even $100,000 is too much to play baseball) I have an incredible dislike for the Yankees and A Rod but I think his pay check seems accurate to what others get paid. He contributes a lot for his team.

No. Supply and demand, baby!
Don't think the owners would pay such a sum if it meant the difference between profit and loss. Of course, Steinbrenner and his fat ego may be an exception, but he not only didn't create the contract, but also a significant portion of GayRod's annual salary is being paid by the team that DID tender that contract, the Texas Rangers.

All players make too much and it shows up in the cost of tickets, the cost of food, the cost of parking and the cost of simple things like hats.
You put a MLB label on it and it goes from $7 to $25.
Prior to signing that deal with Texas, he had his own website (where he was hawking merchandise) and it said "He just wants to take care of his family". I would be curious to know how close a family member would have to be to get a bit of that $252 Million.
The two truly sad things that's lacking in all sports are these.
1) If it wasn't for sports, what would you be doing and what would you be making doing it?
2) How do you feel knowing you make X per day and a lot of the fans in the stands (who pay your salary) make 1/4 of that in a year.
AROD, takes in (on average for the contract) $155,555 per game. That's $57,613.17 an hour (based on a 2.7 hour game)
Sure, he only gets paid for 16.8 hours in the week, but gets 4 months off in the winter.
Oh, the worse thing. When ML ball players go on the road, they get a "meal allowance". The team gives them extra money so they can pay for meals. They don't even have to open up their own wallets..

No because the salary structure in all sports is inflated. He has to get every cent he can in the event he is injured and the career is shortened. He is a good player. Not liked in NY but he is a very good player.
The high salaries are runing sports for fans. Ticket prices too high. I used to go to the NY Mets in the 1970s Four dollars for a box seat .35 for a hot dog.
No you can't ven park the car for $4.

I think professional athlete salaries are disgusting in general. NO ONE is worth $27M a year. The amount CEOs make in salary and compensation disgusts me as well. I know people will justify them somehow but I think it is a sad indication of our society's priorities when people are paid that much while the hardest working people at the bottom can barely get by. It isn't, and never will be, fair.
