There are a couple fire ant mounds around my pond. It's a small pond (200 gal) and I have goldfish in the pond. I don't want to use any chemicals because it would end up going into the water and kill the fish.

To get rid of ants naturally use mint leaves or bay leaves. For some reason ants can't stand the smell of those two herbs. Try spreading those leaves around the mounds. Otherwise you will have to dig the mounds out and kill the queen. This will be exceptionally hard though seeing the fire ants get aggitated rather quickly and they swarm and bite anything that moves. While you are digging have a water hose running into the hole that you are digging that way they can't swarm. They will be washed away into the pond and will be food for your fish. Don't use chemicals though for it will likely kill or sicken your fish. If you are allergic to the bite and sting of a fire ant then just stay away from them and let a professional take care of it. It might cost you a few bucks but, at least it will be taken care of. I hope these few ideas help. Good luck.

Your local store has products designed to kill fie ant mounds. Buy one and use it. The best are the powders that you sprinkle on the mound. The worker ants take the stuff back to the queen and soon the entire mound is dead. Sprays are not good. They tend to set off a defense mechanism in the ant colony. The ants break up and create more colonies and multiply in an effort to survive.

Place a mixer of 50% borax with 50% sugar at various areas near the mounds.The fire ants will take the stuff to the colonies fro food and will all be killed.

I know this sounds fake or corny, but ants cannot digest oatmeal and if you spread oatmeal around the mound it will kill them and not just drive them away to another spot. Also, oatmeal is not bad for fish.

Maybe try white vinegar or watered down white vinegar.

Bleach? Bleach is an all-around good varmint killer. Bleach will kill most anything, including color in fabrics. :D
