Go to www.freecycle.org and then register in your nearest town.
You get to be part of a Yahoo group and will get sent a list of the things being offered or wanted daily, you can post your own wants/offerings.
If you have something to give away, people will e-mail you. And you e-mail people if you want something they are offering.
I've never had any junk mail from Freecycle, but I have set the Yahoo Group setting to "Daily Digest" which means you don't get lots of e-mails every day, just one (but you might miss out on items if you e-mail late).

I do freecycle and absoultley love it. The only mail you get is what people are posting, I set mine to recieve all posts so I dont miss anything, you have to be quick though, the good stuff goes fast. If you dont want what they are offering just delete it, no big deal. Also here is a group called buy sell trade online. That one you can offer thing for a dollar amount and buy things also.

Do as directed in the first answer. I belong to 4 Freecycle groups in my area (small counties) and it is a great organization. I get no junk mail from any of them. I guess it depends on how your area group works and the group leader. Mine all meet at public places (parks) so you don't have to worry about being stalked.

Just go to freecycle.org and register with your local group>i joined recently but so far havent seen anything great and unless you are at your computer 24/7 you will be too slow in replying for the decent offers.Lots of postings as well for what people want.If you ask me that should be banned or made another site and yes they do send a lot of mail but you can cut it down to smaller mail in your account settings

I am a group owner and yes the one poster had the correct instructions for you to follow.
http://freecycle.org/groups/
There is the part of the site to find your local group. Remember not all groups are named after cities; some are named after counties or area nicknames.
