why cant you sell your whole body, that way at least you can enjoy the money made from it instead of donating it. Not only does it help medical but echonomicle as well. Lets say I sell my body and I don't die for 20 more years, the school I sellit to should be listed in a body data base and when I die they can take it. That way can use the money and they can use the body latter.

Most of the bodies available in medical schools are either donated (not that common) or are unclaimed "pauper" bodies that the state is going to bury later. I think that you selling your body in the way you suggested is impractical for a number of reasons including the fact that you might die far away from the area where they are expecting your corpse to show up. By the time someone paid to transport it back you would be worthless for their purposes.

It is illegal to sell your body to anyone. You can only donate it.
I think it would be better to sign a donor card and have your usable parts used to prevent someone from dying and then have the rest donated to research.
Sorry that you feel that way, but someone who donated their parts has given me extra life 3 and 1/2 years ago and my doctors say that with the transplant I can live 15 to 30 years more. I had my transplant when I was 66.

I do not know for certain that it is illegal, but it is definitely unethical. If you sell something, and someone buys and pays for it already, then you should have absolutely no right to it anymore. If, for the sake of argument (because I think most the cadavers in medicine schools were donated), you successfully sell your body parts, then you should relinquish your authority on them. The buyer can do what he pleases with them right away, he does not have to wait for you to die first. This idea is absolutely morbid!

Illeagle! Is that like an eagle with the bird-flu? And what is 'medicane'. And I tried to sell my body, but I could not find a buyer. I can't figure out why! But seriously, I was going to sell my body, but i was only offered a tenner. They said the only thing they could use was one of my eyes. The rest of the parts were plumb worn to a frazzle ! Cheeky buggers!

You can leave your body to medical science, I don't know about selling it though. Don't think you have a choice in what happens to it either (to be found on a bus route near a med college dressed as a doctor no doubt, oh those med student japesters)

In the UK it is permissible to give your blood and to donate your body for medical research after your death (subject to agreement by your next of kin), but not to sell either commodity. http://www.hta.gov.uk/guidance/codes_of_practice.cfm
I can see a legal problem in selling your body, as after your death it belongs to your next of kin, who has a say in what happens to it, unless you donate it by will. What is more, by the time you die, your body may not be in good enough nick for them to accept it (they are very choosy, amazingly enough). You might be all right now in physical terms, but 20 years on (and more, as they would actually have to wait for you to die) goodness knows how you may have deteriorated! No, you are not a sound commercial proposition from that point of view!

People do not sell their bodies for research purposes, not in the U.S. anyway. They donate them. Typically, they have it arranged beforehand in their last will and testament so there is no mistake or reason for their family to object.

Good idea.....why didn't I think of that.

What if they want a 45 year old body? I'll enjoy the 50K they give me now and then go willingly to a gas chamber in about 10 years.

I think you donate your body to science when you die, you don't get paid for it.
