Since close to half the price of a gallon of fuel is taxes, they are.

There is a gas guzzler tax that buyers pay when they buy poor mileage cars.
A lot of the gas usage (and the pollution) is caused by people who buy old crappy cars that have never gotten good mileage and keep them on the road for commuting. (That is the opposite of those who can afford buying poor-mileage luxury cars but it is also a key contributor.) I think a tax incentive to get old clunker cars and trucks off the road would so some good instead.

They are being taxed extra by the tax paid on the extra gas they buy. And even if you tax it more it won't change the desire for larger vehicles. Manufacturers need to be building more efficient vehicles and the government should be providing the incentives for them to do so.
And even if you could find a hydrogen truck where ya gonna get any hydrogen?

This is an ambivalent question... deserves an ambivalent reply
Let me put it this way... like cigarettes, cars have mounted to a status of vice, addiction and/or arrogance, rather that usefulness... just like our popular culture, and the notion that SUV are safe?
As long as people are willing to pay $1.50 for a cup of Starbucks or for a 20oz bottle of water they should not be complaining about the rising price per gallon of gasoline, which in my opinion is becoming more and more repulsive when you look at the profit margins that are being reaped on the back of the all American consumer... and polluter

When the vehicle is registered, if you can show no proof for actually needing a vehicle that size, I think so... Or families who have more than one gas-sucking vehicle, I think so...

They should be taxed 100% If your going to help kill humans you should pay!
They should pay 16 dollars a gallon.
I bet then we would have a hydrogen ford excursion by next year!

I don't beleive there is any merit to that because it would be persecuting the people who are too poor to get an economy vehicle.
