someone told me that if you download google earth from dial up then it wont be as good as if you were downloading it from dsl or high speed cable!

No, per the minimum system requirements, the program requires at least a network speed of 128 Kbits/sec.

Google earth is about 15MB to download, once you've downloaded the main program then it just needs to download the tiles (parts of the map that your viewing or zooming) in on. If your going to be panning and moving around the map alot, then it needs to constantly pull new tiles from google in which case it will be very slow over dial-up, if on the other hand your just looking at a select area, then after you've pulled down all the tiles it will cache (Save them on your computer) and work faster.

Google does not recommend this program for dialup. That does not mean that it will not work. Probably not as good as ADSL, or higher speeds. Look at the requirements on the download page, they are all there on the google's earth download.

That is true. Google Earth works very slow when using dialup. Broadband or DSL is encouraged.

It will work, but not nearly as well as it would if you have broadband. Google does not recommend it for dial up. If they did, they would make lots of people angry.
