This is simply my opinion! I do not believe that India will ever achieve OUR conception of democracy. India is fragmented by the various religious beliefs held by diverse people; they have an enormous population which is growing by leaps and bounds, making for poverty to flourish in certain areas. The beliefs held by some religious groups are so embedded in their culture that the most progressive person in all of India will never be able to bring about radical change. For example, you have children who are laterally starving to death, but the cow is sacred and cannot be touched. You have children who are exploited in the workplace; education is lacking in many areas. women are merely chattels to be baragined for. The culture of India goes back thousands of years, and there is no way that you can reverse beliefs which are counterproductive in a modern society.
