I have an eBay account - I'd given them my bank account information when I lived in NC. I moved out of state & had to change banks so I deleted my bank account information from eBay (that account had been closed). I thought there was no need to enter my new account information, eBay didn't force me to - I'd been using a PayPal account to pay for my purchases and seller fees.
I had some seller fees due last week - instead of using my PayPal account, they checked my file and saw I didn't ahve a bank account on file with them, but used to. SO they tried charging that account - since it doesn't exist, their charge was returned. Then they tried charging a credit card that was also no longer on file because it was a debit card linked to the same cancelled bank account. Now they're trying to ask me to pay fees for the returned items.
Should I have to pay the $15 fee for each time they tried to charge an account tha twas no longer on file with them? That seems pretty unethical to me.

I tried contacting them - they have no phone number and only gave me the run-around online. They said I shouldn't have ever given them the account number if I didn't want them charging it. I'm confused - that's why I deleted it, because I didn't want them charging it. I have to respond through e-mail only because the live help people refuse to talk to me. I get a different person responding to each e-mail I send and they never address the issue. What's going on here? Are they allowed to do this? I filed a complain with the BBB.

Don't give them any information on your new banks or credit cards until this issue is resolved, or they will just take the money out.

They will eventually resolve it if you keep after them. Try sending an email to the CEO.

It sounds to me that this is a misunderstanding. When you "delete" bank or credit card information on your eBay account, at this same time you would need to immediately input the "new" banking or credit card information.

If you decided that you didn't want eBay to use the old bank information, then you had to "authorize" eBay to take out the eBay fees from your paypal account. This is done where your selling account is. eBay would have sent you a confirmation email that you would have needed to provide in order for this service to have been activated.

In addition, on a daily basis eBay notifies you of what your "selling fees" are, therefore they also give you an opportunity to pay these fees via credit card or paypal. They really make this convenient for all sellers.

You would need to pay these fees accordingly, if you wish to be in "good standing" with them.

Good Luck.

If you have fees, it should have been obvious to you that you needed to have some way for them to collect the fees so you needed to put in information on your new account when you closed the other one.

I assume these fees aren't bank fees, since if there were any, the bank would try to charge you, not ebay. And if the fees they're trying to charge you are THEIR fees, legally they can probably charge you since it was your mistake not to have a valid account on file, but I'd think they would waive them. Getting to the right person to get this done, of course, could be difficult. Have you tried objecting in writing (not email, regular mail)?

Cut your losses and pay the fees. Companies like Ebay make it so difficult to resolve issues that it's not worth the fight over $30. I would enter your new account info just in case they should try it again in the future.

I had trouble like this with eBay before but it was a while ago. Very hard to get a straight answer (as you said) but I thankfully got it all sorted out in the end.
Persevere with getting someone on the phone and talking to them. Forget about the live help people.....they are all but useless.
Good luck.
